At what age do you let your child brush their teeth?
When is it safe for a kid to use toothpaste and brush. I know the label on toothpaste says children 6 and under shouldnt use it. So what about those who are under 6? How do u clean their teeth?
That only means that you shouldn’t let them do it by themselves. You should start brushing their teeth as soon as they have them. That is only a guideline anyway…I brushed my teeth by myself when I was 2 or 3, and I knew not to swallow the tube.
4 but still kinda help them

supervise them until you know they can do it, usually age 4, depending

Take your time and brush them yourself. Sit them on the counter and tell them not to swallow the toothpaste and to warn you when they feel like they need to spit. Good luck :]

Um….as long as they know HOW to use a toothbrush and toothpaste…then I’m sure it’s fine…

its harmless if they swallow it, and it comes in a variety of brands. i think they pretty much sell it everywhere.

any age. just make sure they do not swallow any tooth paste.
try rubbing the toothpaste on their teeth.

You shouldn’t let them use real toothpaste until they’re old enough to do that without swallowing the toothpaste. They have to know to spit it out. You can let the child brush his or her own teeth with toddler toothpaste that can be swallowed as soon as he or she shows interest in it. Just rememer that a child’s dexterity isn’t very good, so you’ll need to help get the hard to reach places for a few years.

Really? I let my daughter brush her teeth, she is 2! She uses a baby toothbrush and ‘My First Toothpaste’

The toothpaste says 6 and under shouldn’t use it because if they swallow it, it can harm them. You can get them to brush their teeth at three or four if you use those for kid’s toothpastes that are safe to swallow. (They’re easy to find. They usually have cartoon characters on them.)

any age i say because there is toothpaste that is safe to swallow and taste good 2! i would still help them a little but i wouldn’t worry about them to much.

i brush my eleven months old teeeht since she was four months like the toothbrush said but i cant use any toothpaste until she is two as the only one i can find is two and up,
also they have to be able to actually spit it out so i say two up is the best age to get them to do it by themself to get used to it

There are many kid toothpastes out there depending on the age of the child, and for really young children there is Orajel toothpaste, which kids can swallow without it causing them any harm.
Ask your dentist for any other questions, he/she should know exactly what to use.
Hope this helps!

They have the little bear toothpaste that is safe to swallow for children to start out with. My boys started brushing their own teeth at 2 years old then I would just check to make sure they did ok. My 3 year old I still check to make sure he is doing ok with it but my 5 year old is doing really great according to his Dentist. They then have childrens toothpaste to use that is safer for them than adult toothpaste but since it isn’t safe to swallow they say to only use a very small amount and always supervise while they are brushing and remind them to spit. Same with introducing childrens mouthwash which you can do around 3-4 years old if they are ready but you have to supervised to make sure they spit it out and not swallow.

When you feel it is time. I have 5 children, and they were all different. My youngest who is not even 2 brushes his teeth. He knows to spit out the toothpaste and not swallow. I get the toothbrush and brush them for a good 2 mins, then let him have at it. It makes him feel independent, and like a big boy. It is all up to you and when you think it should happen it will happen.

My children have been brushing their teeth since they were able to feed themselves. I help brush them first and then they do it on their own. They use a non fluoride toddler toothpaste so they can swallow it, just use a small pea size amount. I was also brushing their gums when they were babies, with a small finger toothbrush, you can find these in the infant section of any grocery store.

My mom brushed my teeth with a baby toothbrush with a little toothpaste when I was very young (before I even had teeth) until I knew not to swallow (around 2 or 3) then I brushed them competely on my own at about 3 or 4.

My son started at age 1 with just water. By about 3, they can spit and use just a pea sized amount of toothpaste. Of course, I help him after he is done.

There’s toothpaste made for infants that’s safe to swallow, I use that for my 2 year old. There’s a children’s paste that says 2 and up, but if they don’t spit it out use a pea sized amount. As for at what age they can brush their own teeth, my old dental assisting teacher said that kids can brush their teeth properly until age 8. I think it’s good to let the child brush their teeth in the morning, and parents brush at night.

As soon as they can understand what you are telling them, can learn much quicker than before, that is when you tell them to brush their teeth and why.
Some kids starting at age 3 and some at age 7.
Really it just depends on how much you teach them vs treating them like a baby. Yes a baby is a baby, but did ya know that a lot of parents will start teach their kids as soon as they try to talk? Sooner or later your kid is gonna start to wonder what you are doing with that thing in your mouth & why bubbles are coming out. Tell them & show them how & tell them what will happen if you don’t brush. After you tell them, they’ll most likely freak out & will want to do it ASAP.
It all just depends really. Between 4 & 6 would be a good time to start. I learned how to brush at 3 & learned to read at 4.
So it really just depends. Have fun.

you can buy all natural toothpaste ie: burts bees or toms of maine which is sold in wal-mart and target. it tastes different from "normal" toothpaste but is safe for children. Also, you can search online for toothpaste recipes and make your own from ingredients in your kitchen. then you know what you put into it and can feel safe about your child possibly swallowing it ie:
1 cup baking soda
1/3 cup salt
3 teaspoons glycerin
Flavoring for taste (wintergreen or peppermint oil)
Mix baking soda and salt together. Add 3 teaspoons of glycerin and mix thoroughly. Add flavoring to taste; five to 10 drops usually works, but find out what is best for you. Put paste into a squeeze bottle. Use as you would commercial toothpaste.
You can add a drop of food coloring to add a little color. Add a little more glycerin for thicker toothpaste.
here is a link for toms of maine…like i said you can get it in alot of stores

Oh, and children should begin brushing their teeth as soon as they have teeth, at least with a soft washcloth wrapped over your finger if they are too little for a toothbrush (rub softly and not too far back) Children can begin seeing the dentist when they are around 3 years old. Take your child/children to your next dental appointment so they can see what happens and so your dentist can talk to you about when to bring them in for their own cleaning.
