can you brush dogs teeth with kids toothpaste?

my 2 dogs breathes smells fishy lol all i have is an old toothbrush and of corse my daughters kids paste..just wondering if it would be ok? and how do i brush i nvr done it..
thanks everyone!!!

Actually, there are some special liquids sold at Petco or Petsmart that you can spray into your dogs mouth to freshen up their breath. However, if you want to use a kid’s toothpaste, the material might hurt your dog. I wouldn’t take the chance, but a used toothbrush would be okay as long as you wash it thoroughly.

No, dogs don’t know how to swish and spit. Just using the toothbrush with no paste will work just fine.

  4. To be honest, I’m really not sure about that…

But I KNOW that they make dental health chew bones for dogs that are supposed to clean their teeth and freshen their breath.

I’m pretty sure as long as you used a small amount of toothpaste to minimize swallowing, it would be fine. But a lot could make them sick, just like people, because of the flouride.

  6. I would not attempt to use human toothpaste. You can buy dog toothpaste at pet supply stores. I actually bought my dog’s toothpaste at Wal-mart and the flavor is beef.

    NO!

Many toothpastes contain Xylitol which is toxic to dogs.

Many toothpastes also contain flouride, which is toxic and can cause stomache upsets.. human toothpastes were made for "rinse and spit", which dogs are not capable of doing.

Either buy toothpaste that is formulated for pets.. or take plain baking soda and make a "paste" out of it with water and use that to brush his teeth.

  8. Never use human toothpaste for dogs, it is toxic to them. Go to any pet store and buy dog toothpaste. A normal toothbrush is just fine though (if you have a small dog, the toothbrushes made for toddlers are the perfect size. I use them with my dog because the dog brushes were too big) Here is how to brush your dogs’ teeth http://www.placervillevet.com/dog%20toothbrushing.htm

Pet stores also sell liquids that freshen your dogs’ breath as well as dog breath mints and dental chews, but when your dogs are used to it brushing their teeth is the best option and helps prevent dental diseases better.

Don’t use human toothpaste (wether it be a childs or not) on a dog as it is toxic to them. You can buy specially made dog toothpaste from your local vet or pet store.

Are you able to instruct your dog not to swallow any? Didn’t think so. ;-)

They sell toothbrushing kits specifically for dogs, with paste that you don’t have to worry about. You shouldn’t use human toothpaste on dogs.
