Can dental polish and scaling clean off my teeth plague?

I had dull plague since I was little. I decided to go dentist to do cleaning. But first I need to know whether if dental polish can make my teeth looks cleaner and whiter? Please just reply me yes or no. Don’t tell me to use Crest or anything coz i juz wanna know if dental polishing works. Thank you.
