I am embarrassed about my teeth but I am a dental hygienist in the making. How do I overcome this fear?
I had to discontinued my braces for a while, so now I have gaps between my maxillary laterals and canines. Also besides this I have other dental issues going on. We have to start working on each other pretty soon, but I am extremely insecure about my teeth and what others would think of my teeth. What can I do to overcome this and focus on becoming a hygienist?
I really don’t think u have any thing to b worried about..this is where the trust is gained and good for you that you don’t have "perfect teeth" whatever that means. This way u will have a better understanding of how your patients feel when they come you. U will b able to relate to them and have more to share when it comes to them and their self confidence. No one has to be perfect or have the perfect smile we all think is in..just be u. As long as u have a healthy smile then why care? ur in school to learn not boost ur ego but if you do along the way then great. Like they said you can save up your money u never know what dentist you will end up working for. Any thing can b fixed so just enjoy your time in dental school and have a blast! learn all you can.
Save up your money, so when you get hired you can your teeth fixed at a discount. Maybe even at dental hygienist school for almost nothing! If you want, you can tell a couple people that you are saving up to have perfect teeth. Then everyone will know!
Just let that shining personality come through! I bet if you look around, no one has perfect white teeth right now. You seem like a really intelligent girl, so don’t even worry about it!
Best of luck to you!

My mom is an office manager of a dental office and was in the dental industry for the longest time. I would give her a shout about your concern and help you. OK.

Just realize this is not something you have any control over, it is simply how God made you. So long as you brush and floss religiously, and take very good care of your teeth, you have nothing to be embarrassed about.
Everyone has at least one "flaw" that they are self-conscious about. You are very likely not the only one in your class feeling this way. We always perceive our own flaws as being much worse than what other people think.
What does it matter what anyone else thinks, anyway? Are your teeth so bad that they are going to go home and post your name on their Facebook page as the worst teeth ever? They probably won’t think anything about it. After all, they are all working on becoming dental hygienists, too, right? They will be much more focused on learning their trade than critiquing your gaps.
Just pretend you are fine with it, and other people will be fine with it, too.
