Healthy, creative snacks for kids?
I just found out my 5 yr old has EIGHT cavities. The dentist said its all in the molars and in the cracks of the teeth which means its not only from not flossing back there, its a lot to do with genetics (which my husbands family has HORRIBLE teeth). Anyhow, Im trying to look for recipes/ideas for healthier snacks. I want to cut back on all the sugars. Maybe even using sugar substitute.
Hi, my kids love these ideas:~
* Carrot Sticks/ Grissini Sticks with Dips such as avocado, cheese, hommus
* Pita Bread Crisps – Open out, brush with melted butter, scatter grated cheese over top, bake in hot oven for 5 mins or until golden, let cool – yum
* Rice cakes with cream cheese and avocado
* Yoghurt/Fruit Smoothie
* Fruit with yoghurt dip
* Popcorn
Have fun, at 5 he will love ‘cooking’ and inventing himself which adds a fun element and gets him interested in good food
Fruit. Find out what fruit your kid likes and buy it! There’s always cheese and crackers as well!

pretzels dipped into peanut butter
Apple slices (or other fruit) dipped into vanilla flavored yogurt (or any other favorite flavor of yogurt)
Veggie dipped into low fat Ranch dressing
I don’t think eliminating natural sugars (like fruit) is a good idea. You may wish to ask your son’s dentist for some snacking advice.
